Jonathan Kreisberg is a guitarist and composer born in New York City in 1972 whose writing blends bebop vocabulary with a modern harmonic sensibility. Over the course of eleven albums as a leader, Kreisberg has developed a substantial catalog of original compositions spanning three decades, beginning during his studies at the University of Miami in the early 1990s. His albums showcase a range of compositional approaches, from urgent uptempo lines to lyrical ballads, with records like Wave Upon Wave and Shadowless drawing particular critical attention for their original material. In 2017 he published Offerings of Note, his first formal book of compositions and transcriptions. Compositions featured on AllSolos include New for Now, the 34-bar Peru, the blues-form Five Bucks a Bungalow, and From the Ashes. Kreisberg has maintained long-running musical partnerships with organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, drummer Bill Stewart, bassist Larry Grenadier, and pianists Gary Versace and Kevin Hays, among others. His writing is shaped by these collaborative relationships, often tailored to the specific strengths of his bandmates. As both a performer and educator, Kreisberg continues to expand his compositional output while mentoring the next generation of jazz musicians.
