Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane composed "The Boy Next Door" for the 1944 MGM musical film Meet Me in St. Louis, starring Judy Garland. Garland's tender performance of this romantic ballad became one of the film's highlights. The songwriting team's work on the film also produced "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Trolley Song."
