Victor Lewis is a composer and drummer from Omaha, Nebraska, whose original compositions have been recorded by leading jazz artists across several decades. His writing first gained wider attention when Stan Getz recorded his tune I Wanted To Say, and trumpeter Woody Shaw subsequently sought out Lewis's compositions for his Columbia Records albums. As a leader, Lewis has released numerous albums featuring his originals, including Family Portrait, Eeeyyess!, Know It Today Know It Tomorrow, and Time Bandits. His more recent recordings, including Too Close for Comfort, Can You Imagine?, and Live at Smalls Jazz Club, continue to showcase new material alongside his established pieces. Hey, It's Me You're Talking To appears on AllSolos. Lewis's writing reflects the rhythmic sophistication of a career drummer who has worked alongside Dexter Gordon, Carla Bley, David Sanborn, Bobby Hutcherson, Kenny Barron, and many others. His compositions balance melodic invention with complex rhythmic frameworks, drawing on the post-bop tradition while incorporating his own harmonic sensibility.
