Emmet Cohen is a contemporary jazz composer and bandleader whose original works draw on the full sweep of jazz tradition while pushing into modern territory. A graduate of the Frost School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, Cohen has released albums including In the Element, Infinity, Questioned Answered, and Future Stride, the last of which explores the relationship between early stride piano and later jazz idioms. His original composition You Already Know reflects his melodic clarity and harmonic sophistication. Cohen leads his own trio featuring Russell Hall and Kyle Poole, and his collaborative relationships include work with Christian McBride, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, and Samara Joy. He is a member of Christian McBride's Tip City and the Tootie Heath Trio. Cohen's writing balances respect for jazz lineage with a contemporary voice, earning recognition as one of the leading composer-pianists of his generation.
