Lenny White is an American drummer, composer, bandleader, and producer born in 1949 in New York City. He first gained wide recognition as the drummer on Miles Davis's landmark 1970 album Bitches Brew and went on to become a defining figure in jazz fusion as a member of Return to Forever alongside Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Al Di Meola. White also played a key role on Freddie Hubbard's celebrated 1970 album Red Clay. Beyond his drumming, White has pursued composing and bandleading throughout his career, releasing albums as a leader on labels including Nemperor, Elektra, and Chesky Records, and recording collaborative projects with Larry Coryell and others. His compositional work blends jazz, funk, and rock elements, and his writing includes L's Bop, featured on AllSolos. White has worked extensively as a producer and has collaborated with artists ranging from Joe Henderson and Woody Shaw to Herbie Hancock and Carlos Santana.
