Charles Randolph Goodrum, born July 7, 1947, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is a songwriter, pianist, and composer who achieved a remarkable concentration of pop and country hits between 1977 and 1987. Working initially as a studio pianist in Nashville before turning to full-time songwriting, Goodrum penned You Needed Me for Anne Murray, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal. He also wrote Oh Sherrie and Foolish Heart for Steve Perry, Bluer Than Blue for Michael Johnson, Who's Holding Donna Now for DeBarge, and I'll Be Over You for Toto, among other chart successes. His frequent collaborators include producers and co-writers David Foster, Jay Graydon, and Jim Ed Norman. Goodrum was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000.
