Bob Haymes was an American songwriter, singer, and entertainer born Robert William Haymes on March 29, 1923, in White Plains, New York. The younger brother of singer and actor Dick Haymes, he initially performed under the stage name Bob Stanton and sang with big bands during the 1940s before turning his focus to songwriting in the early 1950s. Though his documented catalog is relatively modest in size, Haymes wrote songs of remarkable durability. His most celebrated composition, That's All, began life as C'est Tout, which he copyrighted in 1952 before refining the lyrics with collaborator Alan Brandt the following year. First performed by Nat King Cole in 1957, the song became a hit through Bobby Darin's 1959 recording and has since been covered by Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Nina Simone, and many others. They Say It's Spring, co-written with Marty Clark, is another enduring standard. Both compositions appear on AllSolos. Haymes also co-wrote My Love, My Love with Nick Acquaviva, which found commercial success through Joni James's recording. His songs remain staples of the Great American Songbook. Haymes died on January 27, 1989, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
