Jesse Harris is an American songwriter, composer, and producer born on October 24, 1969, in New York City. He first gained attention as half of the duo Once Blue with singer Rebecca Martin, releasing their debut on EMI Records in 1995. Harris went on to build an extensive catalog spanning folk, jazz, pop, and Brazilian influences across more than fourteen solo albums, including Mineral, Feel, Watching the Sky, Aquarelle, and Silver Balloon. His songwriting reached its widest audience through Norah Jones's multiplatinum 2002 debut Come Away with Me, for which he wrote "Don't Know Why," "Shoot the Moon," and "I've Got to See You Again," all three featured on AllSolos. "Don't Know Why" won Harris the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. His frequent collaborators include bassist Tony Scherr, drummer Kenny Wollesen, and guitarist Julian Lage, as well as artists Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot, and Lizz Wright. Harris has also worked within John Zorn's Song Project alongside performers including Mike Patton, Sofia Rei, and Sean Lennon. His compositions are characterized by understated melodic craft and lyrical intimacy, qualities that have made his songs a natural fit for jazz and pop vocalists alike.
