Ben Tucker was an American jazz bassist and composer born in Brentwood, Tennessee, in 1930. He is best known for writing "Comin' Home Baby," a tune composed with the Dave Bailey Quintet for their 1961 album Two Feet in the Gutter. The piece became widely popular through Herbie Mann's hit instrumental version and Mel Torme's Grammy-nominated vocal rendition with lyrics by Bob Dorough. Tucker recorded as a sideman on hundreds of albums with artists including Warne Marsh, Billy Taylor, Quincy Jones, Grant Green, and Dexter Gordon. On AllSolos his composition "Devilette" is featured. He later settled in Savannah, Georgia, and became active in local media. Tucker died in 2013, remembered primarily for "Comin' Home Baby," a tune that has remained a favorite among jazz musicians for over six decades.
