Burton Lane was a prolific American composer who contributed enduring standards to both Broadway and Hollywood from the 1920s through the 1960s. Born in New York City in 1912, he published his first song at age fifteen. His best-known works include the Broadway show Finian's Rainbow, written with lyricist E.Y. Harburg, which produced songs including "Old Devil Moon," "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?," and "Look to the Rainbow." His collaboration with Alan Jay Lerner yielded On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Lane's film work included Royal Wedding with Fred Astaire, featuring "Too Late Now." Among his catalog of standards are "Everything I Have Is Yours" and "How About You?" Lane mentored under George Gershwin early in his career and maintained a reputation for sophisticated melodies throughout his six-decade career. He died in 1997.
