Michel Legrand was a French composer, pianist, conductor, and arranger who composed music for approximately 250 films over a six-decade career and recorded more than one hundred albums spanning jazz, classical, and popular music. Born in 1932 near Paris, his jazz credentials were established through collaborations with Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, and Sarah Vaughan. His most celebrated film songs, created in partnership with lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman, include the Academy Award-winning "The Windmills of Your Mind" and the enduring ballad "You Must Believe in Spring," which has become a cherished jazz standard. He died in 2019.
