Another Hairdo, recorded December 17, 1947, is a blues in B-flat by the Charlie Parker Quintet at approximately 192-194 BPM over a 12-bar form. Parker's three-chorus alto saxophone solo opens the improvisations, followed by Miles Davis for three choruses on trumpet and Duke Jordan for one chorus on piano. The medium-up tempo provides a comfortable swing that allows each soloist to develop extended ideas. Parker's three choruses display the sustained invention that characterized his best blues playing, with each chorus building on the ideas of the previous one while introducing new melodic material. Davis's three-chorus solo shows his growing maturity as an improviser, with a more assured rhythmic approach and increasingly personal melodic choices. This is one of the later Savoy session recordings featuring the classic quintet, and the band's familiarity with one another is evident in the seamless interplay between the soloists and the rhythm section. Another Hairdo is a solid, well-crafted blues performance from Parker's most productive period.
