A 2021 live stream tribute to John Coltrane performed by the Chad LB Quartet with Chad Lefkowitz-Brown on tenor saxophone, Steven Feifke on piano, Dan Chmielinski on acoustic bass, and Bryan Carter on drums. The program draws entirely from Coltrane's recorded repertoire and associated material, including a Sigmund Romberg standard in C minor at 194 BPM, a Tadd Dameron rhythm changes piece in B-flat, Coltrane's own 8-bar composition in E-flat minor taken near 192 BPM, a Duke Ellington ballad at 57 BPM, and several Coltrane originals spanning tempos from 124 to 265 BPM. The concert features some of the session's most extended improvisations, with Lefkowitz-Brown stretching to 19 choruses on the 8-bar Coltrane piece and 11 choruses on the minor blues. Feifke matches this intensity with a 24-chorus piano solo on the same 8-bar form. Chmielinski contributes bass solos on several tunes. The range of Coltrane material covered, from ballads to uptempo vehicles, captures different facets of Coltrane's artistic evolution and provides a framework for the quartet to demonstrate their own interpretive depth.
