Edgar Sampson's swing-era classic receives a medium-tempo treatment at 176 BPM, serving as a cool-down after the blazing Funkallero. The solo order is notable — Robaire leads with two choruses on bass before Sheppard enters with five choruses on tenor saxophone over the 32-bar AABA form. Placing the bass solo first gives the performance a gradually building dynamic, with Sheppard's longer statement providing the climax. Sampson composed the piece around 1933, and it became the unofficial anthem of Harlem's Savoy Ballroom through Chick Webb's orchestra. This is the second time Stompin' at the Savoy appears in the AllSolos catalog — the Chad LB Quartet also performed it during their Standards Night session — and the different treatments illustrate how the same standard serves distinct ensembles. The trio's pianoless setting gives the swing-era tune a leaner, more modern sound. The session closes with Coltrane's Some Other Blues.
