About
Matt Dwonszyk's acoustic bass solo is the second of two solos on this 2018 trio performance of Kay Swift's "Fine and Dandy," following Julieta Eugenio's tenor saxophone. He takes two choruses of the 32-bar ABAC form at 299 BPM in F, an impressive bass solo at one of the fastest tempos in the trio's recorded output. The extreme speed challenges the bassist's articulation and time feel, and Dwonszyk's two-chorus statement demonstrates the rhythmic precision and melodic clarity required to sustain a bass solo at this demanding tempo.
