About
Danny Janklow's alto saxophone solo is the first of three solos on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of Horace Silver's "Nica's Dream." He takes two choruses of the 64-bar AABA form at 206 BPM with a Latin feel in B-flat, navigating Silver's extended hard bop structure with fluid lines and rhythmic assurance. The 64-bar form provides substantial harmonic territory per chorus, and Janklow's two-chorus solo builds a coherent improvisational arc across the Latin groove. He is followed by Josh Mellicker on electric guitar and Abe Lagrimas Jr. on drums.
Danny Janklow was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
