About
Danny Janklow's alto saxophone solo is the second of three solos on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of Gigi Gryce's "Minority," following Josh Mellicker's electric guitar. He takes eight choruses of the 16-bar form at 212 BPM in F, the longest solo on the track. The compact 16-bar structure cycles rapidly at this tempo, and Janklow's extended statement builds through varied approaches to the form, developing ideas with increasing rhythmic and melodic complexity across the eight choruses. He is followed by Michael Gurrola on acoustic bass.
Danny Janklow was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
