About
Danny Janklow's alto saxophone solo is the first of three solos on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of George Gershwin's "A Foggy Day." He takes two choruses of the 34-bar ABAC form at 189 BPM with a Latin feel in F, navigating Gershwin's harmonic language with fluid lines and rhythmic vitality within the Latin groove. The slightly unusual 34-bar form adds an element of structural interest, and Janklow's playing moves comfortably through the extended changes. He is followed by Josh Mellicker on electric guitar and Michael Gurrola on acoustic bass.
Danny Janklow was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
