About
Danny Janklow's alto saxophone solo opens the improvisation on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of Miles Davis's "Donna Lee," a contrafact based on the chord changes of "Indiana." He takes three choruses of the 32-bar AB form at 240 BPM with a Latin feel in A-flat, navigating the tune's demanding bebop melody and harmony at speed. The Latin groove adds a rhythmic dimension to this classic bebop vehicle. He is the first of three soloists, followed by Josh Mellicker on electric guitar and Anthony Fung on drums.
Danny Janklow was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
