About
Stan Getz's tenor saxophone solo on "Time on My Hands" is the first of three solos on this 1952 recording from Stan Getz Plays. He takes one chorus of the 32-bar AABA' form at 166 BPM with a swing feel in A-flat, his light, singing tone and melodic inventiveness setting the standard for the solos that follow. At 24 to 25, Getz's approach to Vincent Youmans's standard is characteristically graceful, his lines flowing with an ease that makes complex ideas sound effortless. He is followed by Jimmy Raney on electric guitar and Duke Jordan on piano.
Stan Getz was 24 to 25 years old at the time.
