About
Jimmy Raney's electric guitar solo is the second of three solos on this 1952 recording of Gigi Gryce's "Hymn of the Orient" from Stan Getz Plays, following Getz's tenor saxophone. Jimmy Raney solos over the first half of the form, taking half a chorus of the 32-bar AABA at 235 BPM in F. His cool-toned guitar lines complement Getz's saxophone perfectly, and the concise half-chorus format reflects the compact solo structure typical of this session. Duke Jordan follows on piano.
Jimmy Raney was 24 to 25 years old at the time.
