About
Duke Jordan's piano solo is the third and final solo on this 1952 recording of Gigi Gryce's "Hymn of the Orient" from Stan Getz Plays, following Stan Getz's tenor saxophone and Jimmy Raney's electric guitar. Duke Jordan solos over the second half of the form, taking half a chorus of the 32-bar AABA at 234 BPM in F. His playing completes the split-chorus arrangement with Raney, each musician contributing one half of the form in an efficient distribution of solo space that keeps the performance moving.
Duke Jordan was 29 to 30 years old at the time.
