About
Opening the solo section, this tenor sax improvisation spans five choruses of the 32-bar ABAC form at a medium-up 187 BPM. Weiner's tenor saxophone improvisation unfolds with an assured sense of melodic direction, each phrase building naturally on what came before. The through-composed final section of the ABAC form demands particular melodic invention, as the harmony moves into territory not heard earlier in the form. The extended solo length of over 3 minutes allows for a fully developed improvisation with room to build, explore, and resolve musical ideas. Following this solo, Jun Iida takes over on trumpet.
Ken Weiner was 43 to 44 years old at the time.
