Taking the 2nd solo, this trumpet improvisation spans four choruses of the 32-bar ABAC form at a medium-up 189 BPM. The 32-bar ABAC form, with its non-repeating final section, offers harmonic variety that rewards creative melodic choices through the changes. The through-composed final section of the ABAC form demands particular melodic invention, as the harmony moves into territory not heard earlier in the form. Situated between Ken Weiner's tenor sax solo and Paul Kreibich's turn on keyboard, it occupies a pivotal spot in the arrangement.
