About
Opening the solo section, this tenor sax improvisation spans one chorus of the 32-bar AABA form at a ballad tempo of 58 BPM. Weiner's tenor saxophone delivers a lyrical, unhurried improvisation that takes advantage of the ballad tempo to explore melodic space with sensitivity and nuance. At this slow tempo, the space between notes becomes as important as the notes themselves, demanding patience and a singing quality to sustain musical interest. The bridge section of the AABA form introduces a contrasting harmonic area that tests the soloist's ability to navigate the shift and return smoothly to the A section material. Following this solo, Paul Kreibich takes over on keyboard.
Ken Weiner was 43 to 44 years old at the time.
