About
Closing out the solo section, this trumpet improvisation spans a half chorus of the 32-bar AB form at a Latin feel at 72 BPM. Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt follows with his own half-chorus, bringing a warm, vocal-like quality to his trumpet lines that suits the composition's contemplative mood. The 32-bar AB form provides a two-part structure with contrasting harmonic areas that invite thematic development. The two contrasting sections provide natural opportunities for the soloist to shift approach and build dramatic arc. Coming after Harold Mabern's piano solo, this is the final improvisation before the ensemble returns to the head.
Jeremy Pelt was 37 to 38 years old at the time.
