About
Oscar Peterson's piano solo is the third and final solo on "I Found a New Baby" from the 1955 Pres & Sweets session. Peterson takes two choruses over the 32-bar AABA form in F at approximately 229 BPM, closing the album's opening track with a typically dazzling display of pianism. While his two-chorus statement is slightly shorter than the three-chorus solos from Young and Edison, Peterson compensates with his extraordinary density of ideas, packing each chorus with rapid scalar passages, deftly voiced chords, and the rhythmic ingenuity that made him one of jazz's most celebrated pianists.
Oscar Peterson was 29 to 30 years old at the time.
