Arcoiris Sandoval's piano solo is the sole improvisation on this interpretation of Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" from her 2018 album First Voyage. Sandoval navigates the 24-bar form in E at a brisk 221 BPM with a straight feel, bringing a fresh perspective to one of the most widely performed compositions in modern jazz. Shorter originally recorded the piece in 1966 for his Blue Note album Adam's Apple, and the tune's distinctive bass ostinato and modal structure have inspired countless interpretations.
