About
Pasquale Grasso's electric guitar solo is the second of two improvisations on this recording, following Paterson's piano solo. Taking one full chorus of the 34-bar AABA' form in B-flat at 152 BPM, Grasso brings a different energy to the same harmonic terrain, his single-note facility and chordal vocabulary offering a textural contrast to the piano's preceding statement. The two-solo structure gives listeners a satisfying comparison of improvisational approaches over Gryce's well-crafted composition.
Pasquale Grasso was 33 to 34 years old at the time.
