Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen's acoustic bass solo is the third and final improvisation on this recording, following the massive solos by Gordon and Drew. Taking eight choruses of the 12-bar blues in B-flat at 228 BPM, the young Danish bassist delivers a substantial solo that holds its own in the wake of his colleagues' extended statements. His technical facility and melodic invention on the acoustic bass are evident throughout, his solo adding a welcome textural contrast while maintaining the performance's swinging momentum.
