About
Miles Davis's trumpet solo is the second of two improvisations on this recording, following Parker's four-chorus alto saxophone statement. Taking two choruses of the 12-bar blues in F at 156 BPM, the nineteen-year-old Davis delivers a solo that, while more tentative than Parker's assured brilliance, already displays the spare, melodic approach that would become his hallmark. His two-chorus blues statement reveals a young musician developing his voice in the most demanding musical company imaginable.
Miles Davis was 18 to 19 years old at the time.
