About
Charlie Parker's alto saxophone solo is the second of six improvisations on this recording, following Handy's piano. Taking one chorus of the 16-bar form in C at 204 BPM, Parker delivers a characteristically brilliant statement over the contrafact based on the chord changes of "Lover." His one-chorus solo is concentrated and inventive, every phrase packed with the harmonic ingenuity and rhythmic sophistication that defined his playing.
Charlie Parker was 25 to 26 years old at the time.
