About
Dodo Marmarosa's piano solo is the fifth and final improvisation on this recording. The band jumps back to the bridge for Dodo to play a solo, after which the band takes the head out over the last A section. Taking a quarter chorus of the 32-bar AABA form in C at 215 BPM, Marmarosa's brief but concentrated piano statement demonstrates the harmonic acuity and bebop fluency that made him one of the most respected pianists of the era. His truncated solo brings the improvisatory section to a close before the return of Parker's lyrical theme.
Dodo Marmarosa was 20 to 21 years old at the time.
