About
Horace Silver's piano solo is the fourth of five solos on this recording, following Lucky Thompson on tenor sax. Spanning nine choruses of the 12-bar Blues form in B♭ at a blazing 275 BPM with a swing feel, Silver delivers nine powerhouse piano choruses infused with the blues-drenched, hard-swinging approach that would soon make him one of hard bop's most important architects. Horace Silver was 25 to 26 years old at the time of this recording. Silver's extended piano improvisation builds gradually through the choruses, developing melodic ideas with increasing complexity and rhythmic intensity.
