Kyle Pogline is a jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist based in Toronto, known for his warm sound and melodic approach to improvisation. A 2021 honors graduate of Humber College, he has become a fixture in Toronto's jazz scene, leading his own trio and performing with some of the city's top ensembles including the Alex Dean Jazz Orchestra and the Mike Malone Jazz Orchestra. His work as a sideman with vocalist Caity Gyorgy has earned him two JUNO Awards, Canada's highest music honor, for contributions to her albums Now Pronouncing and Featuring. In 2024, he placed second in the Jazz Division Finals of the International Trumpet Guild's Ryan Anthony Memorial Competition. Pogline is also active as an educator, producing instructional videos on trumpet technique and transcription.
Pogline lists Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Marquis Hill, Philip Dizack, and Woody Shaw among his primary influences. He has recorded multiple live sessions at Sellers & Newel, a second-hand bookstore on College Street in Toronto that doubles as a jazz recording space. He has also produced a series of YouTube videos covering trumpet technique, embouchure changes, and transcription methodology.
Kyle Pogline grew up in Blaine, Washington, a small city near the U.S.-Canada border. He took up the trumpet in high school, where he performed as part of the All City Swing Quintet and developed an early interest in jazz. In 2017, he moved to Toronto to attend Humber College, one of Canada's leading music programs. During his studies, he gained experience across a wide range of settings — jazz big bands, small ensembles, brass quartets, salsa bands, and pop horn sections. He graduated with honors in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music in jazz performance and quickly established himself in Toronto's jazz community.
