Tigran Hamasyan is a pianist and composer whose work melds jazz, rock, classical, and Armenian folk music. Something of a musical prodigy, Hamasyan garnered attention in Europe as a teenager and gained further recognition by winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2006. He's known for his brilliant improvisations which pull from the musical vocabulary of Armenia, and the style of American jazz. He has released a number of solo and ensemble albums that explore a range of genres from from traditional jazz to the sacred music of Armenia. Hamasyan currently resides in Armenia and he tours regularly throughout Europe and North America.

Tigran Hamasyan included Armenian folk instruments on his first 2 albums. Tigran Hamayan won the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Contemporary Music in 2013. Tigran Hamasyan's album "Red Hail" includes tracks influenced by heavy metal music.
