"My Cardiologist" is an original composition by Canadian jazz vocalist and songwriter Caity Gyorgy, featured on her album Featuring, released in 2022 on La Reserve Records. The album, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, was designed as a showcase for collaborations with guest soloists handpicked by Gyorgy, and on this track the featured artist is tenor saxophonist Kyle Tarder-Stoll. The tune is a swinging, uptempo piece that reflects Gyorgy's deep affinity for the bebop and swing idioms of the 1950s and 1960s, with a playful, witty character suggested by its unusual title. The composition's harmonic language and rhythmic drive are well suited to improvisation, and the recording features solos from Tarder-Stoll, Gyorgy herself on voice, and pianist Felix Fox-Pappas, with the core quartet rounded out by Thomas Hainbuch on bass and Jacob Wutzke on drums. Gyorgy's vocal solo demonstrates her skill as a scat singer, an ability that distinguishes her from many contemporary jazz vocalists and connects her to the tradition of instrumentally minded singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O'Day. The song exemplifies the album's concept of pairing original compositions with sympathetic guest artists, and its light-hearted energy provides a contrast to the more reflective ballads found elsewhere on the record. Featuring earned Gyorgy a JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year.
