New Standards is Kenny G's first album for Concord Records, released in December 2021. The eleven-track set consists entirely of original compositions by Kenny G, designed to evoke the feel of classic jazz ballads from the 1950s and 1960s. The lead single, "Legacy," incorporates a digitally re-imagined Stan Getz saxophone sound layered alongside Kenny G's own soprano. The album marks a deliberate turn toward the acoustic jazz tradition that initially drew Kenny G to the saxophone, stepping away from the pop-oriented smooth jazz production that defined much of his Arista Records catalog. While his earlier hits like "Songbird" and "Forever in Love" occupied a space between pop and jazz, New Standards positions itself more squarely within the jazz ballad idiom, with sparser arrangements and more room for melodic saxophone improvisation. The album's title reflects Kenny G's ambition: to compose original melodies memorable enough to stand alongside the standards that inspired them.
