Sean Jones is a trumpeter, composer, and educator who has built a body of original music across at least eight albums as a leader on Mack Avenue Records since 2004. His compositions draw on hard bop, gospel, and contemporary jazz, emphasizing melodic expression and emotional directness. Albums like No Need For Words, Roots, Kaleidoscope, and im.pro.vise = never before seen showcase his writing for small groups, often incorporating vocalists alongside his instrumental ensembles. Jones has served as lead trumpeter and a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under Wynton Marsalis and spent several years in Marcus Miller's band. He has also performed alongside Jimmy Heath, Dianne Reeves, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter. Beyond performing, Jones holds academic positions in jazz education and has been recognized as a mentor and advocate for emerging musicians.
