Mike Bond is a composer, pianist, arranger, and educator from Old Bridge, New Jersey. His compositional output centers on his debut album, The Honorable Ones, released in February 2020, which features ten original compositions among its twelve tracks. The album draws on the hard bop tradition while incorporating diverse influences, with pieces ranging from the straight-eighth groove of "Verus Vita" to the Spanish-tinged, mixed-meter writing of "Chase The Wind," inspired by Chick Corea, and the harmonically adventurous "Block the Box," a contrafact of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps." Two of his compositions appear on AllSolos: "Here They Come" and "Verus Vita." Bond's writing reflects a deep engagement with the jazz lineage, balancing accessible melodies with structural ambition. His primary collaborators on The Honorable Ones include Steve Wilson on alto and soprano saxophone, Ben Wolfe on bass, Josh Evans on trumpet, and Anwar Marshall on drums, with Orrin Evans serving as artistic producer. Bond has also worked as music director for the revival of Tap Dance Kid with Savion Glover and performed as a sideman with the Captain Black Big Band. He continues to work as a performer and educator in the New York area.
