Here They Come is an original jazz composition by pianist Mike Bond. The piece was written for the album A Series of Circumstances, a collaborative project co-led by saxophonists Ryan Devlin and Steve Kortyka, recorded on July 3, 2023, at Phat Planet Studios in Orlando, Florida, and released on the Perla Works/BMI label. The recording concept was inspired by the aesthetic of Elvin Jones' celebrated Live at the Lighthouse LP, and the quintet was specifically assembled to capture that spirit. The ensemble features Devlin on tenor and soprano saxophones, Kortyka on tenor saxophone, Bond on piano, Gene Perla on double bass, and Adam Nussbaum on drums. Perla was referred to the project by Nussbaum, connecting the session directly to the lineage of the original Lighthouse quartet. Devlin and Kortyka had initially developed their musical relationship through online videos during the pandemic shutdown, meeting in person for the first time after over a year of remote collaboration. The band performed a series of gigs in January and March 2023 before entering the studio, allowing the ensemble to develop its collaborative voice. The composition has been characterized as a piece that could have easily found its way onto a classic Blue Note LP, reflecting Bond's thorough study of the jazz masters. No cover versions or alternative recordings have been documented.
