Johnny Mercer wrote lyrics for over 1,500 songs spanning five decades from the 1930s to the 1970s. Though primarily a lyricist, he also composed music, notably for "I'm An Old Cowhand." His most enduring works emerged from collaborations with Harold Arlen, including "Blues in the Night," "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)," "That Old Black Magic," and "Come Rain or Come Shine." With Henry Mancini, he created "Moon River" and "Days of Wine and Roses." Additional notable works include "Lazybones" with Hoagy Carmichael and "And the Angels Sing" with Ziggy Elman. Mercer contributed to over 100 films and co-founded Capitol Records in 1942.
