About
Holger Marjamaa follows Alex Claffy with one chorus of piano on his own composition "You're Not Alone," a waltz in B-flat minor from his 2019 album Mostly Standards. Building on the emotional groundwork laid by Claffy's bass solo, Marjamaa's improvisation combines harmonic sophistication with lyrical warmth over the 48-bar ABA form at approximately 127 BPM. The waltz feel and minor tonality create a mood of tender introspection, and Marjamaa's playing draws on that atmosphere to craft phrases that are at once searching and affirming. As one of only two originals on the album, the track demonstrates that Mostly Standards includes personal compositions alongside its interpretations of the jazz canon.
Holger Marjamaa was 26 to 27 years old at the time.
