Tatum Greenblatt opens the solo section with two choruses of trumpet on Sam Jones's "Unit 7," the first tune of this Live From Emmet's Place session with Alexa Tarantino. At approximately 192 BPM, the 44-bar AABA form in C provides a spacious swing vehicle, and Greenblatt's bright tone and melodic directness establish the performance's energy from the outset. As the first of four soloists ahead of Tarantino, Emmet Cohen, and Russell Hall, his two-chorus statement sets the improvisational standard for the evening's opening number.
