Christian McBride closes the solo section with three choruses of acoustic bass on "Sand Dance" at approximately 221 BPM, demonstrating virtuosity and swing in equal measure over the 32-bar ABAC form in B-flat. His three-chorus solo brings Woodard's original composition to its conclusion with an improvisation that showcases the young bassist's remarkable command, each chorus building on the last. Following extended solos by Rickey Woodard and James Williams, McBride's bass feature adds a final dimension to the performance, his melodic authority and rhythmic drive maintaining the intensity established by the preceding horn and piano solos.
