About
Closing out the solo section, this tenor sax improvisation spans one chorus of the 36-bar AAB form at a ballad tempo of 97 BPM. Webb follows with his own full chorus on tenor saxophone, switching from the soprano he plays elsewhere on the album and bringing a warmer, darker tonal palette to the ballad setting. The 36-bar form provides a defined harmonic landscape for the improvisation. Coming after Alan Broadbent's piano solo, this is the final improvisation before the ensemble returns to the head.
Doug Webb was 53 to 54 years old at the time.
