About
Closing out the solo section, this piano improvisation spans two choruses of the 32-bar ABAC form at a medium latin feel at 126 BPM. Broadbent's ability to find unexpected beauty in standard progressions is on full display here, as his solo weaves through familiar territory while consistently surprising the listener. The 32-bar ABAC form, with its non-repeating final section, offers harmonic variety and a sense of forward motion through the changes. Coming after Doug Webb's tenor sax solo, this is the final improvisation before the ensemble returns to the head.
Alan Broadbent was 66 to 67 years old at the time.
