About
Art Taylor's drum solo is the seventh and final solo on the title track of the 1956 Tenor Conclave album, following the four tenors, Red Garland's piano, and Paul Chambers's bass. He takes approximately three-quarters of a chorus of the 32-bar AABA form at 282 BPM over the "I Got Rhythm" changes, a brief but energetic closing statement. For some reason, Art Taylor's solo comes to an end on the fourth bar of his last A section when Mobley comes in to begin the head. At 26 to 27 years old, Taylor's propulsive drumming had been driving the performance throughout, and his truncated solo brings the track to its conclusion.
Art Taylor was 26 to 27 years old at the time.
