About
Al Cohn's tenor saxophone solo is the fourth of five solos on "Just You, Just Me" from the 1956 Tenor Conclave album, following Hank Mobley, Zoot Sims, and John Coltrane. He takes two choruses of the 32-bar AABA form at 232 BPM in E-flat, his warm, Lester Young-influenced tone and melodic sensibility providing a relaxed close to the tenor saxophone portion of the performance. Cohn's stylistic kinship with Sims, his frequent musical partner, is evident in his similarly unhurried approach to the fast tempo. Red Garland follows on piano.
Al Cohn was 30 to 31 years old at the time.
