About
Red Garland's piano solo is the fifth and final solo on "Just You, Just Me" from the 1956 Tenor Conclave album, following the four tenor saxophone statements. He takes two choruses of the 32-bar AABA form at 243 BPM in E-flat, bringing a different timbral perspective after the procession of tenors. Garland's characteristic block chords and crisp single-note lines provide an effective contrast, and his swinging, rhythmically assured playing brings the solo section to a satisfying close on Jesse Greer's standard.
Red Garland was 32 to 33 years old at the time.
